The Alps are the highest and most extensive mountain ranges that lie entirely in Europe stretching approximately 1200 kilometres across eight Alpine countries namely France, Switzerland, Italy, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany and Slovenia. The highest peak being Mont Blanc at 4,810 m (15,781 ft). The Alps mountain range contains around hundred peaks which are higher than 4,000 metres (13,000 ft).
