"Appear" in "other's reality" speaking their language!!! ... Microsoft's Holoportation & Neural TTS

Can you imagine yourself appearing in other's reality speaking their language!!! ... Microsoft's Holoportation and Neural TTS (text-to-speech) technology combined just made it possible. The company showcased the technology in a certainly impressive augmented/mixed reality demonstration at the Microsoft Inspire partner conference in Las Vegas recently.

Microsoft's Mixed Reality capture studio scanned Julia White, a company executive of Azure, to transform her into a digital speaker of another language. The digital version appeared onstage to translate the keynote into Japanese. Microsoft has used its HoloLense, Azure AI technologies and neural text-to-speech to make this possible. It works by taking recordings of her voice to create a personalized voice signature and make it sound like she’s speaking Japanese.

Microsoft has demonstrated holograms of people before, but the translation aspect is a step ahead of what has been possible with HoloLens. Microsoft’s mixed reality studios are equipped with lighting rigs and high-resolution cameras to capture a fully accurate digital hologram of someone.
